In Syria press and media are incerdibly tightly controlled. The hundred thousands you saw demonstrating, ofcourse to support the president lion king, saying" our souls, our blood, we give it to your bashar" are for "volunteering", that means you have the complete freedom of going there joining the demonstrations, and following your bosse's orders at work (who ofcourse must belong to the rulig party..he is the boss..da!") or your teacher's orders (and he get's his orders from the "officals" that always controll everything going on in schools, compagnies, associations, universities, mosques, etc),or be taken by the mukhabarat...In many dictator countries it is the exactly same situation...but just like that, some events can make pepole finally brake the chains of fear, and go to the streets completly furious...prepared to cut the son and party of "our eternal leader" into pieces. that have allready happend in many countries. You did not mention a word about the vigil held by about 200 human right activists and opposition, intellectuals and normal pepole a week ago..who where stormed by a 1000 angry "student" beating them up, screaming " with our blood, with our souls.." " we are with you Bashar"...bla bla..holding a microphone in front of them telling them " say with our souls, our blood, we sacrifice our selves for you" and when they drefused, they were beaten up. I think it is only fair that you know the other side of Syria..the nonoffical...the pepole's side.
Check out " Syria comment" and "Amarji", and "Syria exposed" blogs..and "http://www.shrc.org"= Syrian human right's committe . But you should do that when you are abroad( not in Syria) if you use internet in public cafés.
